WHO'S YA DADDY???

From the website of a local parish:

"Liturgical Dance is never a performance."

Here we see the Doublethink of "1984" at work; Since when does saying what is not true, make it to be true? Thus, direct disobedience is justified in the mind of the one who chaffs under the gentle yoke of obedience.

If you do not believe you must obey higher authority, then why, pray tell, do you expect anyone to obey you? And if one of your dancers decides to do something completely different than what you have practiced and planned, will you not be upset and either call them to obedience, or remove them?

  1. Pope Benedict has made it clear there is no such reality in the Roman Catholic Church as 'Liturgical Dance'. There is no rubric in the official liturgical text concerning liturgical dance because in the Liturgy of the Roman Rite there is no such thing as 'dance'. Therefore there is no LITURGICAL DANCE!
Apart from this it has actually been forbidden!! It is wrong! It is not on!! It is liturgical disobedience.
No, I'm not going to look up the appropriate texts, that's your job Fr Steve!

  2. Just wait until Bishop Mike returns from the Los Angeles Conference. We'll be seeing much more of this nonsense.

I read the whole posting re:litugical dance on the St. Mark's website. Shameful and stupid.

  4. The word "dance" does not occur in the older translations of the Psalms, or in the Latin Vulgate as derived from the Hebrew or Greek. However, in the English Grail translation used in the Liturgy of the hours, "dance" occurs in 6 different psalms, two of which are used in morning prayer of the 1st, 2nd, and 4th Sunday. It therefore doesn't surprise me that some, based on this flawed rendering, would come to believe it has a place in liturgy (I assume charitably that they actually read the LOH regularly).
