URGENT Prayer at 2 p.m. Tuesday for Joe Sobran's healing through the intercession of Ven. Solanus Casey

The following is from Fran Griffin, Third Order Dominican and publicist for Joe Sobran:

Please pray for pro-life journalist, Joe Sobran, who is extremely ill and may not be able to recover. Tomorrow at 2 p.m., Harry Veryser of Michigan will be visiting the tomb of Ven. Solanus Casey to pray for Joe's recovery.

Please join Harry and I in prayer for Joe at 2 p.m. Eastern time.
You may use the following prayer or any or your own devising:

Prayer for the intercession of Ven. Solanus Casey for the healing of Joe Sobran:
(to be said on Tuesday, Sept. 28):

=============================================

O God, I adore You. I give myself to You. May I be the person You want me to be, and may Your will be done in my life today.

I thank You for the gifts You gave to Father Solanus. If it is Your Will, bless us with the beatification of
Venerable Solanus so that others may imitate and carry on his love for all the poor and suffering of our world.

As he joyfully accepted Your divine plans, I ask You, according to Your Will, to hear my prayer for the restoration to health of Joe Sobran through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

"Blessed be God in all His designs."

Imprimatur: Adam Cardinal Maida, Archbishop of Detroit

==================================================

Joe Sobran is devoted to Solanus Casey, a holy Franciscan Friar who died in Joe's hometown of Detroit in 1957. Fr. Solanus needs a miracle to be canonized. Joe needs a miracle, too, to be healed.

Please pray at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 28.

Prayer request

Sr. Constance, a Dominican noviate, daughter of Mike Collins who is a deacon at St. Paul, Nampa, is studying in a convent in Nashville, TN where there has been terrible flooding. Please pray for her, the sisters and all of the residents of the area. The deaths are in the teen numbers and rising.

Dear Friends,

We are praying that those of you in Tennessee are safe and dry when you receive this. Please let us know if there is anything we can do for you.

Many of you have inquired about the status of the Motherhouse after hearing news of flooding in the Nashville area. We are grateful to God that we are able to report that the Motherhouse sustained no damage during the flooding in Nashville, and that all the sisters are safe. Similarly, the three schools of The Dominican Campus sustained little to no damage during the two days of record flooding in Nashville.

The joy of this news is tempered by the loss suffered by many of the families whom we serve in the schools of middle Tennessee. The sisters of St. Cecilia serve in six different schools in the diocese of Nashville. Of these, five schools remain closed. Many teachers, as well as students' families have lost homes or sustained major damage to their homes. Another local congregation of sisters suffered damage to their convent and some of those sisters are now residing at the Motherhouse.

We ask for your prayers for the families whom we serve, and for the sisters that serve them. We also ask you to join us in humble gratitude to "Our Lady of this House," whom we invoke nightly at the beginning of Night Prayers and Compline, to "protect us from pestilence, fire and water." In this month of May which has begun with uncertainty for so many, may we look to Our Lady to be our certain refuge, and a sure guide to the heart of her Son.

Gratefully in Christ,
Sister Dominic Mary, O.P.
Director of Institutional Advancement

Prayer request

Dear Friends,

The leukemia which took my wife Gwen, which has always been fatal, is now becoming one of the diseases which can be cured by adult stem-cells. Max, of New York, has this same rare and aggressive leukemia (T-cell prolymphocytic leukemia, T-PLL) will receive a stem cell transplant from an unrelated donor on this Thursday. Monday he received chemo to all but kill his own bone marrow. If the transplant is successful, he will be cured. Without it he will not survive. Its another incipient victory for morally acceptable stem cell research vs the oft-promoted immoral use of fetal cells from killed kids.

I was hoping that I might impose on you to offer a prayer intention for Max on Thursday. Although Gwen did not have the opportunity to partake of such a treatment, I give the Lord thanks with a joyful heart that such a treatment is available now.

Thank you and God bless,
Mark

prayer request

The following came by email:

Dear Friends,

Some of you may know Fr. Dick Tomasek, SJ; other may not (yet). But I am begging your prayers for his recovery. This dear man-of-God and very special personal friend of many of us, has spent his Jesuit life, in large measure, helping others through his spiritual direction both at the Pontifical College of the Josephinum and also at the North American College in Rome. A couple weeks ago, upon his return from Rome, he underwent a physical and was immediately sent to the hospital for open-heart surgery whereupon a tumor, larger than a golf ball, was removed and a valve replaced. Sadly, the medical reports have shown the tumor to be, in Father’s words, “a not pretty cancer” – and, though he sounds his usual peacefilled and FAITHfilled self, I am asking all of you to STORM HEAVEN and God’s mercy to heal this marvelous priest in this Year of the Priests!! Beg our Heavenly Mother and our saintly John Paul II – perhaps the Divine FATHER wishes to allow this son to be JPII’s ‘miracle’ for canonization!! In any case, we simply want Father well as we NEED him and love him. He is with his Jesuit Community in WI. Please pray and ask others to as well. Thank you….I know you will!!

Gratefully and prayerfully in Mary, Mother of the Eucharist and, thus, Mother of Priests,
Sister Joseph Andrew, OP

We are all witnesses of the difficult situation in the Congo where so many persons (among whom are Lay Dominicans !) have been displaced from their Homes….We can imagine all other ills attached to this situation: no schooling, no Church Services, raping, wide spread of diseases etc etc.
In these circumstances, we the Lay Dominicans in Africa raise a very very loud alarm inviting all our Lay Dominicans across the Continents, plus the ENTIRE Dominican Family to stand up as ONE person with our Rosaries before the Blessed Sacrament, asking Jesus and His Mother, Mary, to do something very special for each one of those Responsible for bringing about lasting Peace to the Congo.

Bien chers Joyeux,

Sincerely yours in Saints Catherine and Dominic,
Joyful Marcus of Jesus and Mary
And from the Ugandan family that hosted my son:

We ask for your prayers for the people of Eastern Congo. How we wish that people with personal greed leave out the innocents to live their simple life without displacement! Here in Uganda, we are a bit okay, for there has not been fighting in the North for close to two years now. However, the effects of the 20 years on are so grave that we need God's intervention to heal the wounded hearts.

Prayer request

This from chapter member Bonnie Fitzpatrick:

My mother has had a heart attack and they think it is her time. Please pray for her soul and for all of us. This is more blessed and yet harder than I thought it would be.

Lord, may this time in which you bring Bonnie's mother's life to closure, Grant the grace that the hearts of this family be strongly bound to You, now and forever.

Fr. Donoghue update

Bill and Ruth Robertson pass along this update from Fr. Marcellus

Sent: Tuesday, September 11, 2007 1:37 PM
Subject: Fw: Father John Donoghue's condition,,,,URGENT !!!

I just finish talking with Fr. John's sister.

Add to the report below the following update:

---Fr. John had decided to come back to Boise although weak, he was scheduled to travel this Wednesday.

---He got worse and too weak to travel.

---He is holding well at the hospital.

---Hopefully, then, from the hospital he will be taken to a nursing facility for two weeks minimum to see if he gains some strength and can travel back to Boise.

Fr. Marcellus

I confess that in my selfishness I too pray that the Lord for the time being deny Father Donoghue his well earned rest; I am sure he would rather be at home with the Lord, but with good cheer he will continue to work in the Lord's vineyard as long as he draws breath.

Taste and see that the Lord is good - Fr. Donoghue is a man who makes it clear that he has seen, he has tasted, and yes, the Lord is good; very good.

Father Donoghue needs your prayers

As many of you know Father John is on vacation in Pittsburg, PA but was having difficulty breathing this last weekend and was admitted to the hospital where his condition was stabilized and then he was released Saturday.

But then last night (Sunday) he became very ill again and was transported by ambulance to the hospital in Pittsburg where he remains. His niece Grace just called to advise that the medical staff told her that the only things keeping him alive are prayers and massive quantities of steroids.

Please kindly continue your prayers so that he may return safely to Boise soon.

God Bless,

Dave

prayer request just in

Karen Woods OPL forwards this note regarding the earthquake in Peru:

I wrote to ask fr Brian about the situation in Lima after the devastating earthquake, especially news of our brothers and sisters there. Brian is socius for Latin America and normally lives and works in Peru. He is a son of the Southern US Province. This is his reply:

----- Forwarded Message -----
From: "Brian Pierce"

Hi Karen. I happen to be in the States right now. The family of one of my Dominican brothers in Lima (Alfredo) lives right in the part hardest hit. His family's house has collapsed. Alfredo has traveled to be with them and help. I have heard from my community in Lima. They are OK. All phone lines are down in the whole country. Thanks for the prayers. I know that money will be needed in hundreds of places. The bishop of Ica (hardest hit area, which includes Pisco and Chincha) is a Peruvian Dominican. I suspect we Dominicans will be collecting money to help the people of his diocese (where one of the churches in Pisco collapsed full of people -- yesterday being a big feast day, the Feast of the Assumption of Mary). If your community or any others you know want to take up a collection, I will gladly see it gets to the right folks.

Thanks again for your concern,
Brian

Sue Stone also reports:

A friend of mine, Fano, is on vacation Peru...haven't heard anything about her yet. I think she was on a tour. Appreciate any prayers for her and her group.
